The Launch!

Even though I was more or less ready last year it took me again almost until the end of summer to finally launch my boat! It was awsome but as you can see almost no wind (so I still wait for a real test):…

Hourua Reflections

We've now owned Hourua for 3 years and still learning how to sail her efficiently. Since we finally got her down to Singapore we have been racing her at our club, Changi Sailing Club. We have managed to surprise everyone, including ourselves with our performance, regularly winning on handicap in a mixed fleet of boats. Have added some sail power, much bigger genoa, approx 140% and of course an asymmetrical spinnaker. As Singapore is basically on the equator we generally sail in very light… Continue

New Tiki 38 #143 plans received and anxious to get started.

Hello, Everyone, Maggy and I received our plans a couple of days ago. Tiki 38 #143. We are now planning the exacts, as to where the boat workshop/shed should be placed on our very modest property, allowing the ability to move around as needed and the eventual transport loading for moving to the ICW. BTW we are also in the Blog/Website building stage. We are planning to share the workshop development, building, transport and everything in between with all of you. If anyone has any wisdom to…

First Cruise

Back in October 2013 when Gratitude went into her wintering barn for renovation, the spring seemed too far away and there was plenty of time for all the work. Come March, much progress had been made and a date was fixed with a friend for our sea trials.

I'd bought Gratitude, my first sailing boat, at the end of last year after borrowing her for a few test sails. There was a bit of work to do, but essentially she was sea worthy. As the winter wore on, the paint was stripped…

Here's the start

The boat, a Wharram Tiki 21 called Gratitude, was finally purchased back in November 2013 from a friend. Kindly, he'd allowed us to borrow it during the summer. This gave us a chance to try it out, and for everyone to get comfortable with sailing. I was in no doubt, but my small boys and Monika don't always see adventure opportunities as I do.
