The sail rig for the 46foot double sailing canoes would be a variation of a 'crab claw' rig. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crab_claw_sail
This particular double canoe I built went to a school to teach sailing and voyaging culture. So I think they want to keep it close to authentic. Im just finishing a set of spars that are much different for the second set of hulls..more modern. I can try to send you a sail plan if you like?....
Hans...I must say you do great work!...I really enjoy your videos!..and hope someday to meet..
take care,
Clay
We had a really great trip and loved NZ. I think the best part is the people who were very friendly and welcoming.
Since getting back the economic disaster is beginning to hit home and I guess we are all going to have to weather this storm.
Since getting back I have to get Dragon ready for her long sail. I have replaced the beam lashings as a precaution as well as the rig lashings.
Both were in good condition and not showing signs of chafe or stress. I am much happier knowing that all the lashings are new. I have some spare rope for the trip in case any of the lashings show signs of wear.
This weekend I will go up the masts to check that the halyard blocks are all good. They are Lewmars and should be ok. I also intend replacing the tricolor and anchor light bulbs with leds. This will ease the electrical load by quite a bit.
I start my trip to Cape Town in January so there is not much time now. I collected my Sat phone today and will be checking for the best compression software over the next few weeks. This will enable the Sat phone to send and download emails.
I hope the warmer weather is helping with all the many finishing jobs that need to be done before you launch.
Thanks once again for showing us your boat and what a fine job you have both done on her. You are really going to enjoy sailing her!!
Regards,
Dave
Congratulations for your work. The complete assembling cat looks very beautiful, especially with your nice raised center cabin hulls.
Just saw the photos of launching Wakataitea.
Congratulations and all the best for you and your boat.
Must bee a great feeling now...
Cheers,
Wolf
