I owned IKA ROA, a 42 ft Narai Mk IV built in Sheffield and sailed out to New Zealand by a guy called Tim Whelan in the early 80's. I had it for 20 years. In July 2010 a storm blew it off it's mooring , out the harbour and onto Matakana Island where it lies wrecked covered by sand. I aim to but or build another within the next two years. Soul destroying thing to happen to any owner.

About me or us?
Have done a Tonga--Fiji--Vanuatu--New Caledonia--NZ trip in 1996 when I met James on Spirit of Gaia.
Sailed to Tonga in 2006. My wife and two stepchildren sailed with a friend and I up through the HAAPAI Group to Vava'u.My three sons and my daughter-in-law sailed it back to New Zealand. Now my eldest son, Hamish has purchased Hans Klaar's waka Ontong Java, renamed MAREVA, which I am helping to rebuild before it goes to Tonga later this year.
