Bottom of mast is what it is getting it ready for the Pin mount tube before its riveted proper.

Mast step and Tabernacle, mast is coming along very slowly.

My metal worker is very busy and now doing inlaws stuff so wont see anything else until early November :-(

Oh yeah a mast, finally.......

I have just received my asymmetrical spinnaker with sock from roly tasker. How to rig it is a mystery to me but hopefully enlightenment is not to far away.

cheers paul.

When are you launching Paul?

That is a serious tabernacle you have there, Lee! From here, it looks like you have a good welder.

Paul, you've probably already figured it out, but just in case. . .;-) If the sock and sail are not already joined, find a long hallway. You have to stuff the head of the sail all the way to the top of the sock to attach it. The sock likely has a stripe of color on it: pick a side, port or starboard, for the stripe. This helps you keep the whole affair from twisting, keeps the tack forward and the clew aft! The halyard attaches to the head of the sock. The continuous line that hauls the sock up or down needs something near the base of the mast to run on, ie, a small snatch block, so it doesn't get away.

Your halyard for raising this affair should be forward of the forestay: I have a line that runs through blocks on the end of the bows with another block that the sail's tack pennant runs through. This lets me pull the tack to port or starboard, as desired. I sprung for some nice thin and light dyneema sheets, and these sheets also need to be forward of the forestay so the clew can be flown around the forestay and hauled in. I have small blocks at the aft ends that the sheets run to for turning to the cockpit cleats.

Of course, rather than flying the sail around the forestay by turning downwind, you can choose to pull the sock down over the sail, haul in on what is now the active sheet, and get the whole affair on the other side of the forestay. Raise the sock, and sheet in.

The tack pennant helps in trimming the sail: you let the sail rise by letting the pennant out in very light air, and lower the sail by pulling the pennant in as the air gets heavier. I've got a useful diagram on my desktop: I'll post it if I can find it!

Thanks Kim,the drawing would help and thank you for your advice, I am sure looking forward to raising this puppy.Lee the launch will happen after the school holidays as i need to do the wiring i will put up a post about that later.Unfortunately there is a bit of off the field crap going on at the moment that has taken up a bit of my time.Lee what are the qld regs as far as registering a self built boat,do ya know? Another reason for launching later is that the waterways will be a lot calmer than with the holiday mob and all the jokers that get about here on the water at this time of the year.

You can bet there's nobody on the water here in the Christmas holidays!!  Really jealous of you guys!

Here's the link to Tasker's comments on the "Multipurpose Sail and Sock," shown using a monomaran, but useful nonetheless!
