I'm about to turn my first hull upside down for glassing.  I'm going to try supporting it from straps attached to the roof of the building and then rolling it in the straps.  That should work.  Assuming I don't pull the whole building down.  Any other ideas?

Russell, with control lines to prevent sudden movement and its surprise loads, I would say you are good to go!

Russell,

Below are photos of how we flipped the Hei Matau.  We secured two heavy blocks to an overhead beam, then ran a length of rope through each.  We attached the heavy cargo straps to the ropes, which allowed us to rachet the hulls up to clear the trailer.  We set up control lines, as Kim suggested, but found we didn't need them with a few people guiding the hulls when we rolled them.  It all worked very smoothly.

randalls system is good i did the same with my hull,although i only used 10mm rope that i slung around the hull in four places.the more slings you have to spread the the load the better if you are worried about the weight on the the roof .

Sanding - I've been sanding since after the first coat of epoxy on the first bulkhead, but now it seems to have started in ernest.  I should be through sanding sometime in 2016, summer I'm guessing...

thanks for the advice on turning the hulls.  One friend and I rolled it easily.  I can roll the second hull by myself now that I've done one and know what to expect.  The only change I'll make it to tie the straps together with a line above the hull.  they moved toward the ends of the hull as the boat was rotated.

my sails have arrived today,i had them made by sail solutions in sydney who are an agent for roly tasker.thay are tan bark in colour and look well made,now it feels more like i am building a boat ;)

Hi Folks,

Just put on the topsides and the deckbeams. There is a lot of filleting ahead to fix the topsides to stem,stern and bulkheads of course. But I can't wait to observe the lines of the boat with deckstringers in place. So I'm going to work on that first - just to see... Progress made in July 2011After our summerholiday I will then remove them and start the filleting proces.
