My Tiki 26 sails beautiful without any modification. I think such modification in a Tiki 26 with the sail as per design will worsen its sail ability.

The sailmaker appears to be the problem, saying that the mast needed to go forward: the tiki 26 is designed to have a 4 degree mast rake aft. By closing in the skeg, it will likely be very hard to tack. I've also heard that if there is not enough rake in the mast, going to windward will suffer. BTW, a 4 degree rake will put the mast head about 22 1/2" behind the mast foot.

I can't find any shots of the full mainsail to see if it was cut properly: FLAT.

We recently built a Tiki 26 without the skegs. The reason was that the client needed to have increased maneuverability in reverse. We fabricated kick up rudders as there was no longer any rudder protection.
The boat tracks well and maneuvers very well in reverse. A surprise was that the boat tacks much more easily. Even with a reef in the main tacking just means moving the helm, no backing of the jib is needed.
I agree with Kim that the rig and sails are most likely the fault her and that filling in the skeg space will make the boat even harder to tack. Mast rake is very important to the way a boat sails and tacks. David

Do you have pictures of those kick up rudders? Made me curious...
The local version of your Coast Guard, the "Prefectura", won't authorize the Wharram rope rudder attachments. It's interesting to know there are other options.
