"Perhaps you can reuse the old holes of the screws. If you drill a wider and deeper hole, then you can fill it with thickened epoxy, and then you screw the new bulwarks on these holes. That is, you screw the screws in the thickened epoxy, not in the…"

Bulwark replacement and rudder conversion

The bulwarks on my Hinemoa are in need of replacement. As part of the reason they rotted out was due to the screws holding them on, I would like to replace without screws. Just a flexible adhesive. I am having some issues wrapping my head around how to clamp the new bulwarks on without screws while the glue cures.Any thoughts? At the moment my hulls have over a hundred screw holes from the previous bulwarks. There is no way I can reuse them so I would be looking at another hundred holes in my…See More

Small canoe as a dinghy?

Does anybody know of plans for a small outrigger canoe? 9ft or shorter as that is as big as I can easily fit on deck. I live on a Hinemoa, when not sailing other peoples boats.I have seen photos of various canoes, but all seem to be at least 12ft long. The only short outrigger canoes I have seen were dugouts in Indonesia and Vanuatu, and they all weighed upwards of 100lbsMy previous dinghy was a single sheet ply rowboat. It worked, that is about all I can say in its favour.Last year I built the…See More
