Soft-shackles: how to make them and testing of strength

Here is a nice page with good instruction on the making and testing of the strength of these shackles:

The shackles end up stronger than the line they are made of due to their construction.

It is lighter than a bowline or shackle (safer and better for light wind sailing). See Chucks link above.

wouldn't it be simpler to feed the eye-splice through the clew ring then feed the line though its own eye
