Hi, after assembling my tiki 26 and after one hundred miles (more or less) I've noticed an assimetry between the hulls. It means That the right one is some inch forward and obliouvsly the otherone is some inches back. Is this normal or can this be a problem? Should I ri-assemble the boat?

...I always forget to say THANKYOU for your advice...THANKYOU and hope to share a drink on board soon or later
...but....if its better to tight the meam lashing periodically, why ropes are better than belt as they use in the tiki 8m (I presume). something like this...
hope you understand my english......:(

Adriano,

Properly lashed in the first place, the lashing should be fine for the sailing season. Check it periodically, as you would any of the other systems on your boat, of course. Haul the on frapping line if you see slack in the lashing.

The web system needs to be carefully designed. All the components need to be weatherproof and saltproof. I've seen photos of the deck attachment ripped off due to poor design/overtightening the web system. Look for "Lindsay's beam problems" at Scott Brown's Wharram picture pages.

so Lindsay's beam problems happen because the lashing was overtighten and the material was not weather proof? is that what you mean? And the belt is not salt proof and aboveall the beam, the boat, the websystem is not free to adjust. Have I understood correctly

Hi Adriano,

From my understanding, Lindsay's beam block failure was due to underestimating the forces working on the beam-to-hull join. After designing a stronger, more secure deck attachment, it appears his belt system is working.  If I remember correctly, Lindsay's belt-tightening system came about due to the difficulty of locating belts/hardware that were marine quality. And, his system is easier to adjust at sea than the typical "seat belt" buckle.

Yes, the flexibility of the line lashing system is its primary virtue!
