So i have finished the mast with only the top coat to go,i am really pleased with the result as far as perfectly round goes,no she ain't,the temptation to keep rounding the mast can get you into trouble if you are doing it by hand trust me i know, but then again she is handmade right?i have flipped the hull again after fairng and putting on a base coat of paint, the second hull needed alot more fairing around the area where the bulkheads join the hull for some reason.a torture boerd with an orbital sander did the trick.i have glued on the deck to the stringers, second time round i have used screws instead of weights and clamps to get the ply to sit nicely on the stringers.Just on the deck i have not followed the plans but glued all the stringers directly onto the bulkheaads and then laid the ply over the strigers in situ, much less hassle methinks.
cheers paul.
the major construction pieces of the boat will be built by the end of the week, as i have just started making the cockpit floor, the finishes will still have a way to go though but there is light at the end of the tunnel now after a year of building.
All Hail The Chief!! Seriously, Paul, well done.
why thank you Kim,i must say the help and advice and encouragement has been tremendous, from you and others.I have decided to take the day off and go mackerel fishing on my kayak tommorow as the season has just started for these incredible inshore gamefish ;)
Paul thats awesome I'll be down your way in a couple weeks, would be great to drop in and say hi!
for sure Lee.how is your build coming on mate?
The build has slowed down a bit now as the xmas season draws near, what i have realized is just how much this boat building demands of a bloke.I have heaps of little finishing jobs to do that seem to take an age to finish up,the reason being that to keep things interesting i would start to build say the cockpit seats and then move on to say making the catwalk and not exactly finishing anything. This approach has it's pros and cons.Have a merry xmas all and fair winds.
cheers paul.
Ahh... the mind works in mysterious ways. . .mostly confusing! ;~) Your focus to have gotten this far along is one of the mysteries, Paul. Well done! May the next go-round the Sun prove fortunate for you and yours.
Kim
Hey Paul
Remember a boat is only ever 99% finished!
Have a merry Christmas and a happy new year!
Cheers
