I have a tangaroa mk iv that has had its beams replaced with aluminium beams and tiki style lashings works brilliantly   the beam o'all has been increased to 6m  .. I have no idea on the cost  but could perhaps put you onto the previous owner who did the conversion

Thanks guys,I think I'm gonna make new beams as there is some rot in beam 1 and 4...I'm wondering about cost effective timber to use in Australia?

Matt I fail to understand Wharram's comment that Crab Claw is only for very experienced sailors. But this is not the first statement from W. that I failed to understand. Perhaps it is just me.

I don't know why any of the "crabbers" did not pick up your post. Frankly I waited for a vigorous discussion. Doubtless once I post a suggestion this will change and we will have a flood of replies showing how I got it wrong !!

I will put some thing together but I need an idle hour as I will need to post a drawing etc. I will try to do it soon.

Matt I am more and more pissed off with this site. Almost no body is sailing it seems. You get huge amounts of replies to useless things like "best way to fit a fiddle rail". At the same time simple questions like "what is the head room in a T21" drag on for weeks without any actual measurement. A prominent contributor posted photos of a finished boat last year. Still in no hurry to actually put it in the water. I better stop here.

You sound like some one who actually wants to go sailing. Keep in touch.
