Carbon Repair? (Sailboard mast?)

One frustration in my Melanesia build has been a dearth of suitable timber for the spars and outrigger poles in my area.  Trees around here tend to be dense and twisty, rather than long and…Continue

Okay to coat before butting panels?

Hi, everyone.  Quick question: it would be slightly easier for me to coat the interior surfaces of all panels, then glue the butt joints. It's just harder to find a safe place to let them cure if…Continue

Propane Outboards

Cruising World has an item on a new line of propane-fueled outboards.  Available in 2.5 and 5.0 HP models; only the 5HP model is available in a sailboat-friendly long shaft.  The article indicates that the energy in a 20-pound propane tank is about equivalent to 5 gallons of gasoline.Besides cleaner emissions, I see a couple advantages to this fuel. Fewer systems on the boat - you could use a…See More

"Sadly, it's a 16' hull and 12' outrigger ama, so it's not going to work on your Tiki as-is.  You could modify the plans, or go with something like Dierking's sectional outrigger, or make one up.  I believe Glenn T.…"

"Ahh, looks very good! How long is the Melanesia? I would really like to have a tender that fits the width of my tiki 26. 11' on hull centers, so something on the order of 13' would be as large as I could go."

"My plans said to first coat the internal surfaces, and then do the joints. For sure you need sanding in between. So far I could not see any problems."
