A Photo & Discussion Forum for Wharram Design Enthusiasts

I took the liberty of posting Bertrands pic of his boat on another forum and quite an interesting discussion ensued.

B. i think the guys on here will point you in the right direction. It would be great on a Pahi.

I am toying with this idea as well, it makes the deck layout more flexible, but I wonder about the safety of handling the sails when they hang over the side of the boat and need to be reefed.  One of the advantages of a Wharram Cat is that you have little risk of going overboard while handling sails in the middle of a large flat deck. On the other hand, I have read all about Apatiki and Grand PHA, but this issue does not come up, so maybe I am just paranoid.

Boo - I think you are wise to pass on this one. Also anyone with a modest size boat. Deep "V" hulls are good for some things but accommodation is not one of them. This arrangement must reduce this still further. This would I think reduce my boat to a daysailer.

Wharrams are already very under rigged and therefore easy to handle. Whatever about larger boats or rigs I can say that I have handled my boat in very heavy winds under sail without any problem.

Just build your boat without too much armchair theorising and Go Sailing !!
