Wharram Builders and Friends

A Photo & Discussion Forum for Wharram Design Enthusiasts

Hi All,

Recently joined the forum, just wondering if there’s any Aussie Wharram owners (particularly of Narai MKIV) on here who wouldn’t mind me having a look at their boats.

Im looking at buying a completed Wharram and would like to get the feel of the space in a 42fter or similar size Wharrams.

Always happy to crew and contribute to costs if anyone reasonably local needs a hand for a sail.

Cheers,

Quinn.

Gidday Quinn ,

I have recently joined Wharram Builders and Friends. I live in Queensland and have a Hinemoa afloat on the Burrum River . I acquired the Hinemoa from another WB&F member Lisa Powell . I would also like to connect to other Australian Wharrm enthusiasts but until now did not know how to go about this task . Looking at the members list does not work too well as many have not posted for a long time. Also I would be keen to find someone interested in swapping their Tiki 26 for my other cat , a Seawind 24. A few months ago there was a Queenslander trying to sell a Narai needing work on Gumtree , maybe in Mackay I think.

Anyway I look forward to some feedback from other Aussie members

Graham

Hi Graham, great to hear from you mate. Yes I followed the rebuild of that Narai on another site. There was a lot to do though and some questionable mods when sold. I’m looking at one in the states currently but thought it would be nice to sail on a MKIV down here before flying over for a look. Hopefully we’ll get some more replies

G'day QD Hart,,, would you by any chance have a link to that site.

Muchas Gracias.

Just spotted a new ad online :-

warram fiber glass catamaran 12.60mts Gumtree Ad ID 1212763299

He describes it as 41 feet long - probably a Narai It is located in Bundaberg , expensive at $60 K but probably could be bargained down. Spelling standard will deter casual lookers !

Worth an investigate.

I messaged him for more pics etc but I have a feeling it’s one that was last advertised for $29K.... It was solid fibreglass if I recall rightly. Last advertised 6 months ago. Anyway will see what I can find out thanks for the heads up mate.

I have spoken to Lloyd a couple of times regarding his fibreglass Narai-like catamaran . He is not certain that the boat is really a Narai , although the general size is correct for a mark IV . He is living aboard near Bribie Island in the Pumicestone Passage. I reckon that he would prefer a smaller Wharram as at to plus years old the Narai is too big for him to handle. Someone here in Australia should be able to work out a deal with him. This reminds me of another fibreglass Wharram-esque catamaran that I saw located near Gympie , called "Fringdwella" .

I’ve asked for some more pics but he is having trouble sending them etc. Hard to know what condition the boat is in, from the chat I had with Lloyd but if I can get some more info I may fly up for a look.

cheers

Lloyd is again advertising his Wharram Narai look-alike on Gumtree . (Sept 4th 2019) The advert is helpfully titled 'Boats Yacht' but this time has pictures ! The cat is located in Tin Can Bay.  Speaking to Lloyd he mentions that it has a recent 30 HP outboard (Not shown in ad) Anyway here are a couple of pictures.
