Nice!
Nice sailing area and good sailing conditions. Perhaps more performance and fun with bigger foresails.
Do your aluminum beams feel plenty strong? I am thinking about switching to aluminum beams after my wooden ones start rotting.
Hello Brad - I never had any problems with my alu beams. I'm sailing with these beams for over 6 years now.
Good to know! I think I may be trying those out for myself when mine wear out. They look great and no maintenance!
Hi Brad,
I`ve just finishes my new carbonbeams and find it was a great experience to build beams of carbon and epoxy.
The costs for three beams was about 500,- Euros and it takes 20 hours.
Best regards
jan
Hello Jan,
I'm also interested in the pics. Can you also post a description of the steps to build them?
Thanks, Reinhard
Thanks Jan,
I'm sure the carbon beams are pretty light weight when finished? I'm putting Beto back into the water in two weeks. Cant wait!
Brad
Hi Reinhard,
Her is a short discribtion for building carbonbeams.
First step ist glueing Styrodurfaom for the raw form.
Second step is sawing and shaping the form.
Third step is making space for reinforcements ( I take wood and laminated glass or kevlar).
Forth step is laminating with carbon, kevlar and last layer glass.
Step five till eight is filling and sanding.
Step nine is painting.
Step ten is mounting clamps, etc.
The finished beams weight between 12 and 15 kg.
My old ones weight about 25 kg.
Much fun for building.
Best regards,
Jan
Are your aluminum beams still holding up? I kind of want to get some and make some wing seats
