I guess that's what the exterior piece of wood with the vertical grain is for. But, will it be enough? Does it have the strenght of a couple of 8mm bolts?

Merci pour vos commentaires.  Je vais essayer de répondre au mieux. 

Le bois utilisé est du padouck,  l'usage principal de la pièce est,  si vous regardez bien l'image sur ma page de blog, de supporter la poutre.  Donc, travaille peu en cisaillement. Quand à la fonction taquet, ils sont courts par rapport à la section.
