I think the leeway can be minimised by 2 mesures: First the "extra paddles or rudders" as forseen by the designers and with slight larger mini-keels may be from 2 inch to 4 inch. How efficient this should be can only be mesured in practice.
I'm still full engaged with my "outdoors camp" and organic farm project in the Philippines. After the construction works are done, I'll have my workshop and will start with the Amatasi. I bought the plans already.
All the best for you as well! Will be interesting hearing about your progress then! Cheers from the Philippines

I wish you well! The plans are currently discounted on JWD website so may take the plunge myself, but need to finish my workshop. So maybe cutting this winter and a full summer of epoxy work in 2018!
A bit late: but did anyone build her already?
I am thinking about building one as a test for a bigger one.
Even thinking about building het traditionally lapstrake/klinker from solid planking.
Whats your idea about this?
I also want to change the sheer a bit so that I can build with straight planks.
Anyone?
cheers,
Bert van Baar
Hi Rueben,
you made my think about that! Thanks for the brain wave!
cheers,
Bert
hello Bert, I'm Michael I live in holland I visited your workshop many years ago sailing an old Juno.
I later helped James and Hanneke build the first Amatasi. If you are going to build one, or have any Questions, I would love to get involved, Ook in Nederlands verkrijgbaar
Hi Mick,
waar woon je? Ik zit helemaal in Den Helder.
Misschien een keer koffie komen drinken?
groeten,
Bert
Hi Wavedancer; yes, i’m currently arranging space in Delaville, VA, USA. I’ve started a group called Amatasi for anyone interested in the design. I hope we can be in contact.
Just realized I need to have a group to set one up! in the meantime, i’m interested in anyone who has given this design a close look. For a host of reasons, I think this is the right boat for me. I also theorize it would be perfect for sailing the Chesapeake. I’m particularly interested in anyone actually building it.
