The length of the wire rope to position the dolphin striker under the mast beam is given as 230cm in the plan.  The wire is to be fastened to the beam by a shackle into a  U-bolt on each side. On my beam this 230cm wire is 6cm too long, which is exactly the length of 2 shackles. It should be 224cm plus 2 shackles of 3cm each. I have double checked the position of the U-bolt and they are exactly were they are suppossed to be.

I think this is an error in the plan.

Beware when you order your wire rope and check this measurement before orderiing!

Thanks for tip...do you consult JWD ?

Yes , I made this wire to plan and it was too long

I have to correct my numbers: Dolhpin striker wire rope length in the plan is 320cm, this 6cm too long. 314cm seems to be a proper length. Sorry for confusing the numbers in my original post.

I have not contacted JWD about that yet but will do when I get the new rope and see that it fits.

Ralf

I  got the new wire rope yesterday and at 314cm it is still abit too long. I will try annother one at 312cm.  Frustrating!

312cm is the proper length for my boat! I strongly recommend to make a test with some cheap wire rope and bulldog clamps to measure the neccessary length (rope does not work, it streches too much) because the number given in the plans is certainbly wrong. If it is only a little too long or too short the wire rope will touch wood and chafe on the slots which are cut into the bottom of the beam.

I messure my dolphin stryke yesterday in 3,12m, but I will do in 3,10m. I'll do my greatest, because the wedge stretching the cable.

Ops smaller obvious...

Hi Ralf, not building yet but I went looking through the plans to make a note of your observation. I wasn't able to find this 320cm figure in them. Would you be so kind as to tell me in which page/sheet of the plans I can find that figure? I'm afraid that if I don't make a note right now I'll forget it by the time I get there. Thanks a lot for the tips.

Brings back memories. I too had to make three shots to get the dolphin striker short enough.

In small book instructions, last line, stay section
