i want to enlarge the opening in the bulkheads between the fore cabins and the main cabines in my Tiki 38, in order to alow an adult to pass through with relatively comfort.
1) can i do that or for structural reasons it is not advised?
2) in the affirmative case, is there a recommendation about the maximum of such hole?

Why not ask Wharram Design?
tks tom. ten years ago i didn't receive any answer from WD when sent some queries on T26 i was building; then, i don't want to waste my time again as, aditionally, i didn't purchased the set of plans of the T38.
I think the telephone number for Wharrams is on the plans. We phone them from time to time and you can do so inexpensively by using a telephone calling card which can be purchased at many gasoline stations. James can be chatty but will eventually answer your questions. Liz, in the office, has a list of commonly asked questions and the answers to go with them. If you are lucky, you get to talk to Ruth and she is one of my favorite people in the whole world.

I only have an opinion and I do like two water tight bulkheads between the main cabins and the bows especially at speed in the dark when I might not be able to see junk in the water which could crash the bow. But it is your boat, captain, so it is your choice. Ann and Nev

I am with the same question , and decided to open a bigger hole between the cabins. we spend 95% of the time that we are on the boat at the anchor and a decent opening would be great and easy our life onboard, but without compromise the structural stiffness of the boat. we have already a small opening where you can crawl from one side to the other, but its not enough. so I plan to re-design the lay out of our starboard hull. any updates on it? any new ideas? someone has it already? we are in Rio de Janeiro at the moment in our way to Uruguay, after having a wonderfull passage from Trinidad to Cabedelo in Brazil in just 19 days and 2360 NM done... cheers,

It's easy, look another BH's with hollows, in my tiki 30, we do BH3 open to front cabin, I respect the 15cm each side of hollow, If you have any doubt, doble ply in this place. reinforce.

Before I do this I study Tiki 21, tiki 26 and tiki 30 plans, all hollows in bulkheads (BH) have the same margin...

confirm 15 cm...before do any hollow, because I don't have any plans here with me, maybe 12 or 17cm...tomorrow I write exectly cm.
