So it finally happened, I bought some plans. thought it would be best to start small.Since i don't drive cars and don't want to be caught in a marina, I thought i'd better start with a boat that can be stored in my hallway or living room. Is there anyone with any eperience on building/sailing outrigger canoes? I want to build from scratch. Iheard about people using doorskins as hullskin can anybody tell me more about that? Are there any wharrambuilders on this forum that live in or around holland? looking forward to get some answers. Mick

Hi,
Getting the plans and getting started is just so exciting! Congratulations. Nev and I built a hard bimiini top for our boat out of door skins and fiberglassed both sides. But where the fasteners went through, the water got in and the door skins are not meant for outside use. They are meant for doors, after all. So the bimini top had to be replaced using proper ply made for outdoor use. It is weathering well.
Good luck on your project - take your time and enjoy the build. Ann and Nev
thanks for your quick reply.I checked again and Glen Tieman as it seems is making canoehulls with them. maybe one should first insert the hardware and then epoxy over it. I don't know but Imust admit that to me using something outdoors that's supposed to stay indoors doesn't sound very reliable.but on the other hand if it's going to be packed in epoxy it's not really out is it? any suggestions for other waste materials?
