Any classic Wharram owners on here... I know you are out there :)

Hey guys sorry for the whole request for approval business... when I checked that box I thought it meant everyone would be approved not that membership would require my approval... I think I have it fixed now

Good thinking Brandon - since we have to be approved by Budget Boater to join the site it seems overkill to do it again in a group.

I wonder haw many older boats are still sailing ? I wonder what maybe is the oldest still in use ? or at least afloat ?

I think only the name lives on .....The original got into very poor shape after about 10 yrs and was given free to a scout troop in Dun Laoire  [Dublin] as a floating clubhouse. James never intended that it should go to sea again , I believe, but after some dubious repairs it did so - resulting in a rescue. The story I got was that it was rotten all along the keel-line and leaking and the repair consisted of filling the bilge with concrete - sort of like an oversize fillet. At sea this broke up and the keel just fell off. Luckily there were no casualties. It seems likely that the boat was sailing without the Sea Scouts knowledge or approval.

Wow... now that's a sea story! All I can say is wow...

I have a 46'ORO MKIV. first launched in 1993, after a 5 year build time. I am the second owner and I just love the old girl to bits..She has weathered force 10 gales with a 6 meter swell and managed 15.4knots with just the main up. and a dry deck.

She may not be as swift under normal sailing conditions, ie winds below 10 knots

but as she weighs 6'5 tons she gets along ok.

Heer I would like you (too) to look at Kaimusailing blog. He used to own an Oro, and on his Narai Mk4 he has a vary ingenious design for a large cockpit dining table (seats 10), which folds together in several ways for cruising. I also wanted to know if you are familiar with the fotos on Watataitea(sp?)Wharram Builder's site, showing how he used a U-joint for his retractable propeller, from the bridgedeck motor. it looks like you might have done something similar. I would like to know if you have had rough weather down on the Tasman Sea? Can you describe it? (I had a 5 day storm in the North Sea just after 12 yachts sank in the Fastnet race in 1979-I can't describe that....  dennis
