Bonjour,

Inspired by Ian Bamsey, I have found some carbon tube to make a bowsprit for an asymetric spinnaker.

My question are about the lengthof the bowsprit after the stern. One meter? More? Andwhat about the diameter and thickness of the tube? I would go for an about 25 sqm sail. (Recut from a larger one).

With thanks,

Éric

Hi Éric

My bowsprit is 2.2m long and made from the lower section of a windsurfer mast. It's tapered from about 60mm to 50mm diameter and the tube wall is 2.5mm thick carbon.

Thank you very much Ian.

I have already copy your forestay arrangment, I will go for the bowsprit as well. I will keep in touch when it' ready. Thanks again.

Éric

The key points for me are:

1. The over centre level and guy arrangement with rubber ball works really well ! See the blog

2. When cutting the sail make sure the luff length is right. It must fit between the mast head and bowsprit end allowing for the sail curve.

The bit to get right still is the lashing under the bridle holding the bowsprit need to be replaced with some nice stainless bracket.

Ian

Thank you again, Ian.

Best wishes,

Éric
