"Morning Star, my favorite as well, although smaller, is a way better boat than my older 46 foot ORO design.  Don't get me wrong, the ORO provided more fun than we could have ever hoped for but the 46 was a 'wet' boat in the…"

Just Looking
What boat (s) are you building or do you own?
I built a ORO 46 Ft., "Wahini Irene", launched in the mid 1970's. I bought the plans from (Wallace Cookson?) out of "The Whole Earth Catalog" of 1968. I was 19 years old when I started gathering materials. I believe we first launched in 1974. My parents were social friends of the owners of Grady White Boats and also the Sea Ox boat companies in Greenville NC. Because of those relationships and I was only a 'kid', my parents and the boat companies owners, seeing I was seriously building this ORO, planned a 'coup' and performed a very heavy duty hand laid fiberglass job to be sure of a safe and sturdy boat. The original cabin house which I loved, rotted from moisture within in the late 1980's. We fashioned a quick new quonset hut style top at our neighbors boat yard at Peletier Creek in Morehead City NC. I owned a marine machine shop next door. Someone bought and chartered Wahini Irene in the Bahamas I'm guessing, after which they sailed back home to Cape Cod. I received a phone call from an " Andy Soliwoda" sp.? who had recently purchased her. We sailed her in and out of Beaufort Inlet at least 100 times and almost lost her once in a SW half gale with an incoming tidal current. We truly believed that any other boat besides the Wharram would have been lost to the 30 or so minutes of punching through breakers from Onslow Bay crashing onto Shackleford Point.
Country, City, and State?
USA, Morehead City, NC
About me or us?
Built and launched a Wharram older design ORO in 1974 which we owned until 1989. We owned a Wharram Tiki 26 named "Morning Star" in 2008 until 2010 or 11.
Looking to?
Find out When, where or what happened to Wahini Irene, purchased by Andy Soliwoda in Cape Cod in the late eighties or early nineties.
