A Photo & Discussion Forum for Wharram Design Enthusiasts
My wife and I were recently considering our dilemma of living in New England, but wanting to cruise the tropics during the winter while she happened to be reading a book on the emerging paradigm of "collaborative consumption." Last year, we trailered our Tiki 26 to Florida for a wonderful cruise in the Keys, and while it was a fantastic example of what is possible with a small Wharram cat, we wonder if there might be an even better solution that would decrease our time, expense and carbon footprint, while helping someone else to enjoy the Life. Is there anyone out there who would be interested in trading 2-3 weeks' use of their boat in the tropics this winter for the same up here on our boat next summer?

Hi Randall,
I took some picture of your boat when it was on a mooring in Burlington this summer :-)
She is very nice :-)
Do you plan to be on Lake Champlain next year?
Thanks,
Stéphan
Hi Stephan,
Sorry we missed you in Burlington...I would love to have put you at the helm of the Hei Matau for some "Wharram time", or at least shared some crepes at the Skinny Pancake. We spent the second half of the summer farther south at the lovely Chipman's Point Marina and had a great time, so we may repeat the process next summer. If so, we would probably do some weekend sailing down there, and take a 3-4 week cruise up to Quebec. Not sure, though, as we have long dreamed of sailing the Maine Island Trail, and given the time/labor involved in setting up and taking down the T26, we might have to choose one or the other.
Kind regards,
Randall
Hey Peter,
Oh, I'm sorry I didn't get your message earlier. I was just in Sarasota last week! We decided against towing the Hei Matau down for a winter trip, as we didn't want to keep the kids out of school for a month again this year, and some other factors made it too expensive. Nonetheless, we needed a little break from winter, so packed up the car and drove down for a week to visit family and spend some time on Cayo Costa.
If you do wind up keeping Morning Star in the Bahamas next winter, we would be interested in joining your share group. We tend to have cruising opportunities each year between mid-December and mid-February, so that could jive well with your schedule. Let me know what your thoughts are on how such a group might work to mutual benefit.
Still hoping for snow,
Randy
Hi Randy. It is great to hear from you. Sorry I missed you when you were in Sarasota. I am busy right now getting ready to leave for the Bahamas on my Island Trader 46. I will write you my thoughts on how this might work when I get some free time. This is a link to the location which I plan on keeping Morning Star on a mooring. It is an absolutley perfect location. http://www.kevallihouse.com/ . I will keep you posted.
Best Regards,

Hey, my girlfriend and I will be taking a trip to Sarasota next week to check it out as a possible place to live. If I moved I'd obviously be bringing Element. any advice you could give would be appreciated. Also if Morning Star is there I'd love to see her.

Hello from Denver. I own a Tiki 26 that I keep in Sarasota, FL. I was planning on sailing Morning Star to Georgetown Bahamas in the Exumas on April 18th. I'll be using her as a support boat for my Island Trader 46 between May 1st and June 15th. I have been thinking along the same lines as you. While I am not interested in a boat swap idea, I would be interested in a boat sharing idea. I thought about leaving her in the Bahamas and getting a few people together to share her. I be using her only a few months of the year. Mostly April, May and June. Best Regards, Peter Weil 303-332-1990 peterweil1@yahoo.com
Hi Brandon. Good to hear from you. I split my time between Denver and Sarasota. I will return to the Exumas in the spring for the third year staying a few months on my motorsailor "Valkyrie". When I am not in Denver, she is my home on the water, however; she is on the hard for a few months for a blister abatement. This will allow me an oppporunity to spend a lot of time getting to know Morning Star. I love Sarasota. I am in Denver right now but will be returning to Sarasota next week on Tuesday. I keep Morning Star at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron. If you have not been to the club yet, you are in for a treat. It is a secret treasure. Call me anytime and I will be more than happy to chat about the area. My number is (303) 332-1990 I look forward to meeting you. Best Regards, Peter
Thanks! good to hear from you too. I'm free for a bit tomorrow I may try calling you then. I'll definitely check out the Squadron while I'm there. How's Denver right now? I know Nashville is starting to get cold. :(
Brandon
Peter,
We have been brainstorming some vacation ideas for late-January to mid-February, when I recalled our conversation last year. I wanted to check in to see where you and Morning Star are these days, and whether you still have any interest in a share or rental arrangement.
Happy Holidays,
Randy
