On a quest for more adventure this year, my wife Libby and I, decided to sail our Wharram Tiki 21 “Sandy” to the Wharram gathering at Islamorada, Florida. Our 320 mile round trip started in Jupiter, Florida.
The plan was to sail in company with Gene Perry and Dale Kipp. Gene has been sailing and building Wharram catamarans for many years, and I hoped to gather any wisdom about these boats that he could share. Gene had recently acquired a classic 27 foot…

On Good Friday morning April 2, my wife Libby, daughter Rachel, and I hitched up the trailer for a three day sailing trip to Cape Lookout N.C. After a few test sails on the local lake, it would be Sandy's (my Tiki 21) first taste of salt water. Four hours later we arrived at the public launch in Beaufort, North Carolina. We will be in the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race from Baltimore to Portsmouth in October, then go to Rebel Marine (anchoring out) to be with friends there who organize the race and are old cruising buddies, then go through the inside at Hatterass via the Dismal Swamp route and then planning a stop in Oriental with more friends. There is a Tiki 46 up in the mountains getting well along and he bought plans through us, so we take a special interest in those projects and will hope to get out to his boat shed. He is in Winston - Salem. There is a guy interested in buying Tiki 46 plans at the bottom of the Cape Fear River who we hope to visit again. Then, if it is a typical year, we will likely go offshore to Charleston and then offshore again to Florida.
So I will give you our phone number and ask you to phone us from time to time during October to make the connection. 401 261 7816. We can receive or even make calls for free after 7pm week nights or any time on the week ends. Likely we will make a Wharram gathering in Florida in early December also.
It is always fun to meet Wharram builders and see what interesting ideas they have come up with.
Again, congratulations! Ann and Nev
