I don't understand this picture. Are we looking at the underside of the hatch? If so, what is the cross piece ment for. Does it go underneath and how, or on top and how? If on top, why is it shown on the bottom? So the floor hatches may be very neat, but it is a secret how to close them. Can you please enlighten us?

You are looking at the underside of the hatch. The picture shows the sealing lip and the cross bar. Turn it over and place in the opening. The cross bar now reaches right across the hatch and up against the underside of the floor. You then tighten the two screws with allen keys or handles if fitted and this clamps the hatch good and tight - there bye achieving a good reliable seal. This picture shows it the right way up and shows the allen screws to tighten the hatch.
