A Raka is a 36 ft Traditional Design. It is not a really popular choice as Wharram designed it to win races. The hulls are quite a bit narrower than his other designs so you end up with a pretty big boat and not much interior accommodation. I'm rebuilding it in Richards Bay and its taking me a hell of a lot longer than I thought it would.
I have looked at most of your photos and its fascinating seeing each stage of a build. Thanks for putting them all in.
Hi Chris,
That's a beautiful build you have going on there. Is that Doug Fir ply you're using? You builder seems to be really moving through the build. It looks great!
Dear Chris
We are John and Kat from Australia, members of the PCA and we are building a 42' Pahi due to launch in about a year. We will be in Cape Town on 4/5 February and Durban on 7th February. If you are going to be in the area and would be happy to meet with us to discuss Wharram building and owning, we would enjoy it very much. Please let us know as soon as possible.
Regards
John and Kat
Chris - hope you had a great christmas and we envy the sailing. however we are actually sailing(well that's what they call it) into Durban on 7 february on the Queen Mary 2. we arrive at about 8am but must be back on board by 5pm so it looks like we won't be able to meet up with you due to your work commitments. however we'll contact you closer to the day and see if anything changes. cheers J&K
It would be great to meet you and look at your boat. We have some photos of our Pahi 42 on our laptop. We'll email you closer to the date with our arrival time, as Cunard seem to be changing some of the times in some ports. Do you have a direct email address that we can contact you? Our email is katfish1@iprimus.com.au
Dear Chris & Noreen, The ship will dock at Ocean Terminal. Apparently we are not allowed to walk around the port area, so they are providing a shuttle bus to the Shaka Marine World wherever that is. We will give you a ring as soon as we get there and find a phone, probably around 0930. We have to be back there for the last bus at 1630. Really looking forward to seeing your boat. Cheers, John & Kat
Dearest chris and noreen. thanks for the email and photos. we tried to respond but it bounced - could just be our internet connection. will email you when we get back to brisbane but just wanted to say thank you thank you thank you. cheers john and kat
Hi Chris, I'm doing well thanks, yourself? I have made a start on my boat. I'm going to be building the beams first, and for now I have cut out the beam webs and am currently processing the meranti to use in my beams. I haven't been able to get epoxy, as yet but planning to get some towards the end of the month, so wanna have all the bits ready, and then do the assembly.
Hi Chris. Was really great to go see your tiki 38 build. You def have a great boat there! I really like the modified coach roofs, makes her spacious and comfortable. I look forward to seeing her on the water! Any idea how long that will be? Hopefully next time I go check out Wharrams, you will be there to show her off yourself.
In Cape Town Nice boat you got there. I see you got the DBN fever re your cabin tops! NIce. Just need to find a way to block the sun so you don't wake up sweating. Or sleep in the dog box! See some nice ideas in your pics.Dan
