I assume you are talking about the aluminum or wood beam that connects the bows on the Tangaroa. This should be through bolted into the stem posts. If I remember correctly, your forestay bridle terminates here as well, and will need the strength of the through bolts.

Hey Budget Boater, thanks for the reply. Yes they are wooden beams,Oregon. I've converted the boat to lashings as I said and wonder about the bolts being to static and not having movement while the rest of the boat flexes under lashings? The lashings would surely be strong? The fore stay bridle connects directly to the stem, not the beam.

The netting beam has but a single pivot point, which is the dead center of each hull. Flexing should not be an issue.

Ok...Apart from the extra work, can you see any problems lashing them?

No. You would just need to create a means to stop athwartship movement.

The cross beams should already be doing that in theory...or you mean just for the netting beams themselves?

The netting beam, if not bolted in, will need some mechanism to not move side-to-side under the lashings, just like the main beams, which have pins or locating blocks.

Yep gotcha. Thanks.

My beam at the back of my boat is lashed and I glued a solid rod of aluminium at both inner lashing points of the hulls. The beam has slots cut to fit the rods.Works like a charm.

Hmm...that's a discreet way of doing it.
