Tiki 38 a step further !

Helo every body ,thanks for join me in , I live in Brazil and I´m new to the Wharran world.

I ´ve been into sayling since very young , and recentenly cruised 700 miles  in a catamaran , from Salvador to Rio de Janeiro , since  them  my  love for multhulls have being increased.

More recently I got in touch with the wharran´s  boats and the hole history behind it. I,m very impressed with the  performance of this boats and want to build a Tiki . I wonder if the effort to build a 38 would be a lot greater them to build a 30. My greatest concern is thar I´m a 200km from the sea. How much costy woul be a 38 ?

Thanks Chuck , it gives me an ideia of the task .Would be something around $60 000 for a fully equiped boat.Is tha corect? Almost the double compared with the Tiki 30. in terms of building time do you think I should double too?

Ivan, welcome. Budgetboater is building my Tiki 38 in Texas about the same distance away from the sea. He said that there is much more effort to build the 38. He has built both boats. My cost so far is about $30,000 US. This is for the basic materials and supplies only, including sails, not masts. I expect to spend another $5,000-$10,000. I actually spent about $20,000 more for other nice stuff like motors, watermaker, anchors,  tools, beer, etc. We saved money by buying enoughplywood and lumber to build two boats all at once and receiving a large discount on the large order.  I spent over $200 on sandpaper alone! My best estimate is to calculate the costs of everything you need, then triple it! Do the same for build time. I always figure that everything will cost more, and take more time than you thought. I am never disappointed when I do this. Good Luck!

Prescious advice ! I ´ve being thinking a lot since I joined this forum and colecting experiences here and there.

may be better   to start with a Kiti 30 .To get experince and set sails earlier.And start a 38 with no rush. Thank for your help !

I started with a T30 and learnt heaps. Went offshore (New Zealand to
Tonga) and back but found her too small really for offshore cruising. I have now bought a
T38 and am in love! It all depends how much $ you have but my advice is to build or buy  a t38. They are very cool boats! regards Brett
