A Photo & Discussion Forum for Wharram Design Enthusiasts

Hi folks,

Can anyone tell me if they have had any experience with the Monitor windvane on their Wharram?  What was your experience?  In particular I am interested in the installations on the Tiki 38,,,, and even the Tiki 30.  I have no experience with either boat, but I thinking that the Tiki 30 may be too small to carry this setup?  Any thoughts welcomed, good or bad.  Thanks.

Just in case you aren't aware, Wharram sells a set of plans for a windvane that you can build yourself:  https://www.wharram.com/shop/building-plans/self-steering

I'm planning to build this for my to-be-built Tiki 30.

There was a Monitor windvane in Tiki 46 Peace IV. See http://wharrambuilders.ning.com/photo/photo/listForContributor?scre...

Hi Stewart, yes I was aware of the Wharram windvane, but for some irrational reason I do not want to install trim-tabs on my rudders.  That was the only reason for looking at something else.  A few days after I wrote my question to the forum, I decided to revert back to my original plans of building the Tiki 26, rather than the 30 or 38.  I wouldn't consider the Monitor for the 26 anyway.... so most likely back to sheet-to-tiller self-steering.

Great video - thanks for posting!
