A Photo & Discussion Forum for Wharram Design Enthusiasts

New to this site, quite excited by the info you have all contributed, with years of combined experience in sailing and Wharrams. I have been looking at various designs and reached the conclusion that I would like to possibly build a Tangaroa mk1v but have not found anything on cost to build . Can anyone enlighten me on what the cost would be to build one excluding options ie electronics etc?? Thanks to everyone that contributes to this site , will definitely keep enjoying your insights Luis

I also would like to see a discussion on building a boat of this size. I think not many scroll down to the blog section you would do better i think to post again in the forum.

It is a while probably since one of these was built so there may not be much information on current costs. The short answer is of course to get a set of study plans and price the materials listed. Even at this stage your decisions on which ply to use etc. will greatly affect cost. Some things seem to depend on where you live - West Epoxy sells in US at 20% of it's price in UK. Many comment that JWD underestimate the resin used but I wonder do many builders apply extra coats ? At a minimum I would make my own list independently as a check.

As with building time it is the small things that add up. There is a lot more than ply and resin in a boat. List and price every hatch hinge and clasp, every foot of rope, paint is surprisingly dear etc..

If you add in rent of a shed transport/launch cost etc you might well decide to get it built in the Phillipines or Florida. And you should probably get an estimate for this anyway.
