Been sailing for 40 plus years. Owned everything from little dingys and beach cats to Big CT's and Islanders. I'm a cat sailer in my heart and wished I still had my MacGregory 36 Cat. the fastest boat I've owned. Had it over 25 knots flying a hull. Now I'm older time to get my other dream boat going, a Wharram.
Looking to?
Not sure I have the time left to do a from scratch build and still get to sail it for a few years. SO I need to find a lost or forgotten boat and rescue it. Just need something that has the basic beginning finished and the builder lost interest, died, or what ever. I didn't retire rich, spent my fortune on adventure along the way, so I need to find a ship on cheap.
Steve it is in Comox Harbour and still for sale I think because I saw it on Craigslist the other day. If you google Craigslist comoxvalley 38 foot Catamaran you should find it. There is still potentially a good boat there if some one has some time and a place to work.
Steve...About Wharram in Bacliff,Tx...in previous listing on Ebay the bids got
to $2500 with several bidders...My reserve was higher...The ball park price is
around $5000 but will look at ALL offers...If this project could work for you we can make a deal for you...The boat could easy launch this summer, very basic, and can be stayed on in yard while working on. I know it would be hard to determine if you are in CAlif and boat in Texas...I could help some..I know the
old MacGregor boat dealer in Clear Lake, Tx, he has two 36 Cats...not for sale.
I have a Bruce Wild 37 Cat I stay on in Fulton Harbor, with old man dreams of
Steve....so you got the VW fever too....My daily driver is 81 Westy, needing
TLC but goes on...I love the Vanagons...Had a tin top 80, still have for parts.
I drive slow, decided not to go for Subie, but sure sounds like a match. Some German, Some Japanese...I could go for a Van Tin Top with Subie, little one, as
I do not need a Westy stuff...On Wharram...I have said before to demount this
project Wharram would be difficult...BUT, it can be done I suppose...I have
attached some heavy built Ply Box Beams to the cabin bulkheads and to bulkheads fore and aft, then covered the beams with balsa core ply panels.
I suppose with much cutting it could be cut and then re set and glued in to place with mods you desired...if detached, it would be an easy move to Calif
on at legal width. Fun to thing about...I used to go from Houston to Chula Vista with Frank G the MacGregor dealer to pick up new boats, got to meet
MacGregor once, a sharp cookie...There is a lot of misc fittings to go with boat.
Oh, not sure I have been messing with the hulls since 2001, with breaks for
about 20 months of World travels, and got the Kusi Cat in 2006 and move efforts to Kusi...Wharram was started in Conn, man died, Airline pilot in Houston
brought to Houston, worked on for hobby 5 years, sold to man that IRS took away, and I bought from WArehouse...It was fun to work on, but I moved on..
Steve just posted some older photos on this site...Plus..Thinking...If I wanted to
trailor it and detach the beams, as the beams are very solid to hulls and have the panels decks over the beams on the hulls and the bridge deck panels are already in place, just take a saws all and rip it in two down the very center line of the bridge deck then design how to reattach when in Calif...just a thought and one way to do it...it would work and be fairly fast and easy...MRT

Steve...more thoughts...I have some more photos, older, that you may not
have viewed, showing some of the looks of how the beams are attached.
I will figure out how to be sure and get the photos for you to view...Melvin
