Thanks for your comment, it looks like I've got things back on track and I'm looking forward to making some good progress over the coming months. Great to here you're starting your own. Its coming up to two years since I started and I figure another two are still to come so who knows we could be launching about the same time! Good luck with it don't hesitate to give me a shout if I can help with anything although with Dave as a mentor I reckon your sorted!
Yes Chris i am happy with the 'eggbeater'.I run a marinized rodeo 2-2ltr diesel, because its not a marine diesel it was a little higher on rpms.Behind that a 2:1 ratio marine gearbox.I tried a cv joint,it works well but im going back to the uni joint. The 1" shaft has a casing with 3 teflon cutlass bearings lubricated from the top of the shaft from a bypass in the engine saltwater exhaust cooling. The V lifter with locking latch works well also although i have another lifting method which will also lock the shaft down using an old large spreader. The salt water cooling pickup is just down between the fin and the prop and works a treat also. All in all some fine tuning but the system works well
Gday Chris, the prop size im swinging is 21" 3 blade left hand.As you may be aware there are a few things come into the equasion to determine what size of prop you can swing to suit your boat and running gear.Basically, hull waterlength, hull shape [type of /and displacement],average engine revs max when underway, gearbox ratio. There are equasions that will get you near enough to your target.[Look up propeller calculator].Im using close to 2ltrs an hour and cruise 7kts at at about 1800rpm.I can put another 600rpm into the box and should bring speed up to @10kts if i need it.
Hi Dave thanks a lot for the info.I have tiki38 plans and am making final design choices .2 outboards or a big diesel type of stuff.I like simple stuff and being a mechanic the old style diesel is first prize.Sounds like your system works well.and is quite efficient.Regards Chris
