Unfortunately only a motorboat right now, never sail it, just try to finish the renovation and sell it. I am definitely not a Power boat user :-)

About me or us?
I am a Biologist who worked for 20 years in Life Science industrial Sales and Marketing. Want to change my life to a more nature connected life style. I am sailing for 40 years now and have also good experiences with catamaran sailing. My first boat (my father's boat) was a Tornado and I never get used to the missing speed potential of Monohulls.
Changed my plans to be able to get a boat sooner. Now I am more tending towards a Tiki 30. Hope this will work out. For my family, wife plus 5 years old grand daughter a Tiki 30 should easily do it. However a 38 would be what I really want.
"I am wondering that there is pretty low interest in those kind of modern communication issues.
My thought was that there is a bunch of questions around nowadays basic tools like E-mail and internet access.
I would be happy if this thread could be…"
"Really a lovely boat, congratulations. But I didn't see any indication why it should be called "Proa".
It rather looked like a crab claw rigged outrigger canoe. Observing a tack would solve the riddle :-)
Always fair winds for…"
"It doesn't look like a Wharram any more, too many modifications in my opinion. The most serious ones are the solid laminated aluminium beams ( I refer to the quoted thread) which will give no flexibility at all but increases stress at the…"
"I cant' tel about any personal experience in building a hull with strip planking. But I remember a few years ago when Glenn Tiemann was building his Tama Moana he posted his succeedings in the wharram forum. It went very slowly although Glenn…"
"The compression on the beams caused by the mast will be most likely less compared to a design with stays and shrouds.
In a "traditional" rig layout you have to consider that the load of the shroud tension adds to the weight of the mast!…"
"Stainless steel can change its condition in a series of ways. The most common is "electrical corrosion" which typically occurs when SS is in contact with other metals such as aluminium, bronze or "normal steel". Then there is…"
"Hi Budget Boater, this all sounds very well. Could you explain the difference of your H-M Junk rig vs. a traditional Junk Rig? The Junk Rigs I know are very heavy, easy to sail but difficult to handle, not "for Children" definitely.
"@Hans: What is the issue with spectra rope vs. "regular" polyester brais rope? Does your comment also allpy for Dynema and other Kevlar/Aramid-related fibres? Is it the low stretch ability?
I am just curious abour your opinion.
"Maybe a silly question but in my eyes an obvious one: Has anybody ever tried to fix the shrouds of the main mast to the beam only and not to the outer gunnel? Stability of the mast should be o.k. if you consider the geometry of monohulls. And this…"
"Unfortunately, no drawing. What I can say is that at assembly, the cockpit will have to come down vertically into the " hole ". There is not much clearance. Seems pretty stiff with the ( 4 ) vertical fore and aft plywood locker sides. Hope…"
"I had exactly the same dilemma and decided first to go for a Raka. Then, after a couple of months thinking back and forth about different modifications I skipped the Raka because of a very simple fact. There is not even one double berth possible…"
