Hi Kim. In the JW article there is a cleat in the sail, but I think you are using a knot instead of it. Can you explain your system?

Yes, my system is not wanting to put holes in my new sail! ;~) Seriously though, right now I am just using a slip knot in the pennants themselves; the extra lines wrapping around the sail near the clew are just to tighten up the loose end of the sail.

I may soon get bold enough to hot-knife holes for cleats, as they are likely faster to secure the pennants in a seaway.

I can tie a slip knot fast though...The cleats might be more secure holding if the sail was vibrating in a blow.

Thanks Kim. I usually take the sail down when reefing, but the pennant reefing seems to be fast and simple. I am afraid that the cleat could be dangerous if the sail is flapping, so I will try first your system.
