The builder of our Tiki 21 lived close to a bridge and needed to be able to lower the mast frequently. The mast is mounted to a "platform" with hinges and the forestay is connected to a rope. The mast is carbon and made out of a spinnaker pole from an Americas cup boat.

Your beam lashings look quite loose.... Do you have movement in your beams as she sails? How about if you bounce around on one of the bows or sterns?

Brandon,

I think they are quite loose. I can't notice any movement when sailing but once when I was just drifting with sails down (fishing) and the waves came in from the sides, I heard a small banging noise that I later related to a "loose" hull. I noticed that in the plans it says "5 full turns" with the lashings, but i only have 4 turns (on all beams). I will be replacing the lashings. Any recommendation on what type of rope to use?

I don't need to be able to lower the mast fraquently, so I am thinking of replacing the forestay construction with a conventional stainless turnbuckle. Any known downside to that?

Thanks for noticing and making me aware of it. Since it's our first Wharram and we only had it for a short while it's not easy to know what is "normal" and not.

/Kristian.
