12 ft Porta Boat dink. it didn't sink exactly but did run along full of water to the gunnels. Impossible to bail with the 4.5 merc 2stroke on it. Bolts pounded out of transom but I had brought spares with extra rubber washers. Really slows the forward progress down. First clue was speed dropping from 8 or 9 mph with 9.9 Yamaha to 3 or so!! Love the porta boat but had to learn how to tow it. Sank faster with no outboard than with the outboard. Motor holds bow up!! Figure it took 3 hrs to sort this mess out. Didn't hurt a thing though.

Put one water gallon in bow, to line up the porta boat with motor

The problem is hovering over the dinghy while bailing.   Can be done by lifting the motor a bit and bailing from the swim ladder - my slender daughter was then able to bail the rest which was a marathon job to say the least.   A couple of days after this picture was taken I looked back to see the entire dinghy ghosting along about six inches below the surface of the water.  I had pulled the outboard for fear of losing it.  That drops the nose of the dink and in rough water it is capable of nose diving into a 2 or three foot wave and instantly becoming a submarine !!   Stopped forward motion and the portabote floated right back up to the surface.   Same problem without the motor on it.   Can NOT get into the dink to bail it without water pouring into the transom cutout.    The trick is to leave the motor on to keep the bow up and to trail far enough back to allow the dink to ride up the waves leaving the tunnel between the hulls.    And keep a five gallon bucket handy.   <grin>    The first sinkings were due to rattled loose bolts.    The one I just described was me trying to outsmart the dinghy and learning how to manage the peculiarities of my boat and towing situation.    Normal cruising learning curve not a problem with the boat.
