Hello sailor...
Even though we had no wind to speak of, the larger swells did provide Vaea with a little surfing speed. :-)
That looks like the way to do it! Lekker rustig as we'd say in Afrikaans meaning "nice and relaxed".
Glad you had a great trip! Looks beautiful out there.
By the way, are you still liking the Anderson ST12 winches?
Yes; some would say overkill for a tiki 26, but with my old system of turning blocks/spinlock cleats, I had to put my feet up against the beam and haul for all I was worth to trim a jib full of breeze. Past method was to head up to unload the sheet. With the winches it is simply easier: when you tack and haul in the new working sheet, the ease of "cleating" by using the self-tailing feature, and using the winch handle to bring the sheet in a bit to tune the trim is really nice.
As you may remember, I lucked out and found them on sale at Defender's for $150 off their full cost! I picked up two maintenance kits to have on hand when the need arises. Keeping them covered when not sailing evidently really helps to prolong the maintenance intervals: keeps the grit out of the gears and pawls.
Yeah, you got lucky on the Defender deal. They are more now, but I can get a bit of a break from Port Supply. I'm trying to decide between these and the Lewmar Ocean Series 16s, which can be had as a pair for less than the Andersons at Jamestown Distributors right now. I mainly want self-tailing winches to clear up the cockpit some and eliminate the 2:1 purchase on the jib sheets, thereby shortening the amount of line to deal with on each tack.
