As I have been made to be aware that there is quite probably a discrepancy between Wharram's forecasts for build times and construction costs, I am curious to know how those of you who have already built fared in regards to both of these issues?
I realize that we all have different modes of operation in regards to tools, help and working conditions but it would be great to get a broad perspective on these issues across the whole Wharram range.
Anyone up to sharing the details of:
Design and Size of Boat: Date started: Date finished: Approximate hours: Approximate costs: Any other significant details: Any photos: ????
Hi Josh, My outrigger was given to me . I am the third owner. It was built to plans back in 2002. I got it a few years ago and made many changes. I have no idea of how many hours I worked on it. I can tell you the ama took me about a week of part time work not incuding paint. I think a melinesia could be built in about three months working weekends and a few nights a week...Kevin
Thanks Guys for all the replies!
Its good to get an idea of the actual costs and time involved. All your boats look amazing!
Anyone out there got any details on a tiki 26 build?
Many Thanks,
Josh
Design and Size of Boat: Tiki 30
Date started: Can't Remember
Date finished: 12/2004
Approximate hours: 2100
Approximate costs: $35,000 US - I got 90% of the lumber at 1/2 cost and most of the epoxy was free (purchased as an abandoned project with plans) and includes watermaker, plumbing, electrical, head, radar, sails, electronics, water heater, generator, engine most of which I acquired at substantial discounts at the time. Without the discounts and free stuff it would have cost nearly $60,000 US
Any other significant details: Too small for long-term live aboard ocean cruising
Any photos: Tiki 30
Design and Size of Boat: Tiki 38
Date started: Dec 2007
Date finished: Not yet
Approximate hours: Way over Wharram's estimates already
Approximate costs: Under budget to date on materials
Any other significant details: Much harder to build than the Tiki 30 when comparing the two, but easier than the Tangaroa
Any photos: Not yet finished
Hola, estamos construyendo un Pahi 63 con mi esposa, en Argentina. A veces algún ayudante. Estamos trabajando hace un año, tenemos un casco avanzado. No se aún los costos totales ni el tiempo de construcción. Cuando pasa el tiempo es más fácil y más veloz el trabajo. Nos interesan opiniones de otros constructores.
Saludos.
