Dear All,

My Delivery `skipper has let me down and i am looking for some crew/ skipper for a delivery from Mossel Bay to Richards Bay in south africa ASAP. Should take 5-8 days.

If there are any wharram sailors based in south africa that would like to join me then please get in touch. As the boat is a commercial SAMSA registration i need at least one person who has a SAMSA skippers ticket. I can pay a wage and / or expenses for the right person or persons.
I am a proficient sailor, with mostly coastal experience sailing in thailand but i have never sailed in south africa and would like someone with local knowledge.

Or if anyone knows a professional skipper please forward their details.

You can reply here or drop me a mail at marty.c.peters(at)gmail.com. (replace the "(at)" with @ )

I will be arriving in south africa on the 27th and will post a contact number once i have arrived.

Thanks

Marty

Marty, wish I could be of more help, but try get in touch with the Richards Bay yacht club and ask if they know how you can contact a guy called Noel who used to own the Prout catamaran "Storm". (They were in Thailand/ Malaysia some time back). If he is in SA he may beable to help. Alternatively try Point and Royal Natal yacht clubs in Durban and ask them for any advice. Good luck with that!
Is the offer still open, I'm based in Port Elizabeth?? even if it has been delivered is there any chance I could come for a day sail, never been on a Wharram and am keen to sail on one before I commit to building one.
I helped deliver a Jim Brown Searunner 31 to Durban from Port Elizabeth and spent 5 days of the Transkie coast so I Have some experience and would love to do it again.
Hi Jesse,

We just made it to port francis, and now i have to go off to work for about two weeks. please post or email me your tel number and we may be able to work something out when i get back. I will say that the boat is really "rough and basic" but we had one hell of a sail in 25-30 knts the other night so that made up for the hardships!.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers

Marty

Are you the owner because I was just in St Francis last weekend and saw the boat there and got hold of Dave who I was told owned it in partnership with Ray. I offered to help out with any repairs since I am just up the coast and it's only an hour drive for me to get there. So if you need any help getting her ready for the next leg I can help with anything, just really want to go sailing again the trip to durban was a good few months ago and I'm getting itchy to go sail again.
My number is 0826114548
and email is exd.electrical@gmail.com

I have my VHF/SSB radio license if that helps the SAMSA one, have not gotten my skippers yet though
Hi jesse,

I think you saw another wharram tiki 46 in st francis bay, its all white with the deckpod and nice wooden trim. I would be interested in meeting the owner of this boat if you can arrange it!
My boat is very tatty and is white with red beams and red trim, named shark.... she is in quite a poor state cosmetic wise but seems solid enough. If you are in st francis then just look for the tattiest boat there and thats mine!

its looking like my work will be cut short and i may be back in SA by the end of next week, i will give you a call once i arrive and see what we can arrange. I will be flying into PE so we could meet and have a chat.

Cheers

marty

Ok it's was not the same one, well when you are down I'm sure you will meet the other owners. I will keep thier numbers on hand and we can call them when you are here. I'm in PE so tell me when you land and we can meet up that would be great. Do you have transport for when you arive or are you just going to hire a car??

I really don't mind if it's a tatty, i like roughing it. I'm all for the minimalist approach to boating, thats why I like wharrams and the fact that they are seaworthy.

The skipper of the Searunner I helped deliver is in Durban I just gave him a call and asked if he was available or if he knows of anyone, he said he will get back to me.
