Wharram Builders and Friends

A Photo & Discussion Forum for Wharram Design Enthusiasts

Hello everyone.  I'm interested in buying or building a Wharram in the near future.  I'm especially interested in looking at a Tiki 30 so if anyone knows of one in the SE USA not too far from South Carolina please let me know. I know Boatsmith has one in Florida but would like to ind one closer to look at. I have built in the past a Richard Woods Romany and Wizard design so no stranger to boat building but would like to buy a ready made one rather than build again. I live close to the ICW so maybe one traveling south would make a brief stop to look at, Thanks,

Brad

Ahoy Capn Brad,

Welcome.  Kaimu is getting some minor maintenance.  Big doin's at Baltimore this weekend.  6 barges of fireworks.  Coast Guard restrictions.  Blue Angel flying team.

Brad,
About the head on a T26: there are two Tiki 8M at the Marriott on Marco Island that are used for beach charters. These were built by Boatsmith and have full marine heads and holding tanks installed. Whether you would consider it sacrificing a bunk or not depends on how useful you consider the aft bunk.
My nearly complete Tiki 26 is just north of Atlanta and you're welcome to look at it. I'm looking for a partner or an outright sale at this point.

Hello Russell and Janet,

Thanks for the reply.  Yes I would be very interested in seeing your Tiki 26 both for seeing one in person and the possibility of purchase.  Brad 843-957-0943

Hi Brad,

I followed your exploits closely on the Woods forums and am amazed how fast you can build a boat! After building fancy designs (with boards and roached mains etc.) I'd be interested to know what has brought you to the Wharram designs?

Roger

Hi Roger, The cats I built with daggerboards and big mainsail roaches went to weather well.  But you do pay a price in extra weight, cost, building time and more complicated systems to maintain. The trade off I have concluded is not worth it to me anymore for the extra few degrees made to windward. I'm trying to simplify now and go low tech as much as I can so that's why I'm interested in the Tiki. Plus they look nice too!

Brad

Thanks Brad - I'm looking forward to following your progress. The Tikis sail well and I don't think you will regret making the switch.
