Making a Tiki 30 - Looking for ideas and to connect with others

Hi, my name is Paul and I live in Sydney, Australia. I'm planning on building a Tiki 30 in Sydney starting December this year. Will buy the hard copy plans ASAP and start planning/preparing.

I'm handy (but not a carpenter) and have only been sailing for 5 years (off and on). Overall my understanding of yachts and sailing is limited but I'm still going to do this. I will have some 2-5 other persons helping me to build it.

What I'm looking for is:

  • Connecting with anyone who has built and sailed a Tiki 21>38 from scratch.
  • Upfront honest advice on what to look out for before starting and during the build
  • If you have built a Tiki and had to do it again, what would you do differently and why?

I like the Wharram catamaran concept as it's a project and it seems, within reason, you can customise a good number of aspects of the boat.

The Tiki 30 I will build is for long term living on (will retire inside 5 years and cruise). Not looking for a mega luxury boat, just a simple/stylish boat that I can live on with one other person (I'm downsizing and looking to live a simpler and minimalistic lifestyle). Want it for coastal cruising in Australia and also open ocean passages in the Pacific/Indian oceans.

My email is paullister64@gmail.com if you wish to get in contact and start a conversation.

Thank you and go well.

Paul
