This is called origami boat building aluminum is becomeing less exspencive as times go on marine plywood is very exspencive here in Canada a I do not know the cost of 2 hulls built in plywood in your country  but I can build 2 x 36 ft hulls in aluminum for about 10,000 dollars Canadian here . with much less labour than wood- fiberglass contruction I can expect the hulls will last indefinately . no painting is required  all aluminum can be cut with carbide  wood  working tools faring the hulls are quick and easey there is a man on youtube (sv Seeker) building a 74 ft steel boat using this method had he used aluminum he would have built it in much less time aluminum is lighter easer to cut faster to weld and with the new MIG welders it so easey for the homebuilder boat . the much less maintenance alone makes it worthwile
