Hi Mike,
Welcome. I hope you will decide to say a little more about yourself and what Wharram you want. I do not know where Lugano is.

Hi Mike,
Glad to learn a little more about you. Somehow your last letter wound up in Jacques page, but maybe you can update your own page now. It is a place I have always wanted to go to since childhood. Perhaps someday....
Are you ever in the USA? Would you like to visit Peace and discuss the Tiki 46 with us? We are associated with James Wharram Designs and are able to sell plans (and we get a commission). But the price you pay on line is the same as you pay if you buy from us. We offer to all our east coast Us builders that we will visit WHEN we sail by going north and south with the seasons, but we will not be sailing near Lugano, most likely, so I cannot offer that. However, we will be happy to answer any questions you might have. This web site is also an excellent source of information. I only wish we had this when we were building.
The Tiki 38 is a large boat. Do you need that much boat? We know Jacques well and his 38 looks pretty big too. How many will go sailing? How much time will you want to devote to building?
Well, we just anchored after sailing all day in thick fog, so I am ready to sit and relax after cooking the supper. Hope to hear from you again soon.

Hi Mike,
I was extremely tired when I wrote that last letter and it has several confusing typos as a result. I meant to say the Tiki 46 might be too large. Certainly, and without a doubt, it is big enough for a family and even a large family. Three couples can be happy on this boat for extended cruising with plenty of privacy. Do you need all that? The 46 is a great party boat and we had over 40 aboard for a Christmas Eve sing in Bahamas this past winter. Do you need all that space? The point Jacques makes is well taken. The 38 weighs about half what the 46 does and takes about half the time to build. Even if you simply adore boat building, I would suppose that you will someday want to sail. The tiki 38 is supurb for a couple and there is room for kids.

Think carefully. Nev and I always try to help plan buyers select plans that will make their dreams come true in the easiest way. We do not want them to become bogged down in projects that become nightmares.

When we started building Peace, Nev was 60 and we intended to sail around the world. Well, we worked 3.5 years over a 5 year period building half the time outside to finish enough to launch and cross the Atlantic. At that point we began to feel the age creeping into our bodies. So you need to make the build go quickly and start it early enough if you want to have time for extended cruising. We have put over 30,000 miles on this boat, but age is a real problem for us. Nev is simply un willing to make long passages. Overnight sailing is ok, but he will not cross oceans. At almost 66, I am still willing and eager to cross oceans, but for how long?

The question is how old are you? How many will help build? How many will go sailing for sure? Do you need extra rooms for paying guests? All of your friends and family will say they want to go sailing, but it is just talk. They want to sail for the day at the most usually. Do not build a huge ocean going boat for people who will not join you for more than a day. This is exactly the same advice we got from Wharrams themselves in their livingroom when we bought plans.

But saying all this, we adore the big Tiki 46 and are delighted with Peace. She has had some paying guests, has had loads and loads of friends on some offshore distance runs, and she is a wonderful home. She was such a big project to build, it still amazes us that we actually did it. During the build I remember mostly being worried that we would not finish and was grateful we were both disciplined. This is a project you must finish. Do you have that discipline?

Here's to making dreams come true! Ann and Nev
