Hi Robert,

is your cart's angle adjustable? I like them very much. Do you have more details?

I made my carts out of 2x4s and particle boards, only 2x 3.00-4 pneumatic wheels and very low. Lengthwise stability is achieved through 2 pipes parallel to and on each side of  the keel. I still have to test them for launching and for climbing a ramp up the trailer. I might have to build new ones.

Cheers, Thierry

Hi Thierry,

Yes, the angles are adjustable.  I wanted to make it easy to line up the hulls for fixing the crossbeams in place before launching.  I've attached a couple of pictures and you'll be able to see the outer bolt on each support runs in a slot.  Once the crossbeams are on, I slacken all the supports so the trolleys can rock from side to side on uneven ground.  You can also see eyes for straps that go around the hulls, and for lines to move the trolleys fore and aft.

The framework for the bases is 2x4 like yours, and the tops are 3/4 (18mm) exterior grade plywood.  I'm not sure what type of particle board you've used, none of the particle board available here would stand up to immersion in water.  One weakness I've found is that the 1" aluminium axles are not stiff enough, so I have to launch the boat before adding engines, anchors etc.  The wheels & tyres are also a bit marginal...

An unexpected problem I found the first time I used the trolleys was that they are so buoyant it's almost impossible to pull them out from under the boat once it's floating.  To fix that I drilled a small hole in each base board to let the trapped air out, and added 4 x 10kg lead blocks to each trolley.  That was just enough.  I need to be able to carry the trolleys easily in the back of my car, and I can lift each lead block off before taking the trolleys apart.

I hope that helps.

Cheers, Rob

Sorry, I should have said OSB not particle board! But I am not sure OSB would stand up to water very long. Wow, 40kg of lead that's a lot and a problem to be reckoned with.

The axle is a solid 1"x1m stainless steel rod going from side to side. The steel pipes parallel to the keel are not installed at the time of the picture. At the moment I am imagining a lot of different clever schemes to launch but I am still in the process of gluing scarphes to the damaged beams. I have studied all the different trolleys this site can offer. I am limited by the weight I can carry if I want to trailer within the legal weight limit. I could replace the air wheels by wooden ones to alleviate the buoyancy problem.

Cheers, Thierry

I like the look of your wheels, the tires look more robust than mine.  What type are they, where did you get them?

You should be able to find the same in the UK or on aliexpress. You could also take solid instead or tube wheels.
