my profile picture is our previous Pahi 42 Angie. As you can see she had the Tiki rig which was not really suited to the vessel, she had zero light wind performance apart from using the cruising chute so our aim was to buy another Pahi later on for extensive cruising and we came upon our new one, Eau De Vie, formerly Sundowner (built in Holland). Sadly she had extensive rot in the port hull, 80% replaced, including the keel. So we decided to keep the sea-going qualities our previous Pahi but with enhanced accommodation for our large family of 6. The beams being rotten anyway and beyond repair, we decided to mono-coque Eau De Vie and junk-rig her with a mast in each hull. We're very fortunate that Pete Hill of Badger and China Moon is building a new cat in the same yard and we are picking his brains extensively! I know to some of you purist Wharram owners what we are doing is an abomination, but we are working very hard to keep all the sea-going qualities whilst providing comfortable accommodation. If any of you are further interested, there are many more photos of the conversion on my facebook - regards, David, Julie, Lucy, Richard, Nicolas and Henri-David.

monocoquing is the french term for making it one hull e.i. making it rigid and not flexible, we put four 22 foot box beams through 'Eau de Vie' making it rigid, then the pod was built on top of these box beams and the bulkheads were turned into box beams making the whole pod part of the two hulls. Yes it was a big job but we've been doing it for 18 months, the hardest part was most of this building was done on the beach as we were unable to haul the vessel out until both hulls were tied together so hence the repairing of the port hull is one of the last jobs because as you can see we couldn't have tackled this between tides ha ha... we're in a rainy period at the moment so we are building the masts in our giant garage between our hulls.
