Nice idea. Please take a picture when the traveler is on so we can see how it works. Won't it chafe with the beam edge?

I'm going to lash a block around the beam. The cleat is only to keep the lashing from sliding inward, from the pull of the traveler.

Thanks Paul. Truth is that shortly after starting my build, I discovered a couple of medical issues that have led to many doctors visits, tests and procedures for the past 4 or so years. Also did an exemplary job of breaking my left thumb last year, to the tune of 50 K !  My mountain of medical debt leaves me with a trickle of boat money and lots of time to " polish the turd " as it comes in. Enough of that whine. Hell bent on launching next year. 

I've watched your build and think that you've done a great job as well. I'm just deficient at communication and using social media.  Working on it.

Hey Mark Im back for more help on Wharrams remedial boatbuilding course. I'm preparing to drill the holes through my rudder to attach it to the transom. My plans indicate and inset of about 3/16 of an inch.whare the  Hinge lashings attach-- It looks to me like you did not . I have always sidestepped my curiosity about this indentation. Seems like it weakens the attachment and I'm not sure I see much purpose to it??? I've got the indentations in the hole but not the rudder yet.

I think the indentations are meant so that wood lies upon wood and not the lashings. So the lashings just hold the pieces together but dont get squashed between them (leading to more chafe than necessary). I think both indentations together make up the width of the lashings.

Hi Mark good morning to you Im back again this time to ask you if you're happy with the dimensions of your aft traveler beam, what are the dimensions and is it solid wood or box construction? Seeing how good it looks on your boat I would like one too. As always thanks again. Have you got a launch date in mind?

Hey John, 

Just got back into town. Aft beam seems solid enough. Only supporting solar panels on one side and hanging blocks for the bottom end of the ladder on the other. It's a Doug Fir box with a chamfer piece under the top and the ends filled. I'll try to add drawing.

I wish that I had a little more clearance to the tillers. i can get about 45 degree rudder angle before the tillers touch the top. We'll see.

I hope that I do get to launch, someday.?
