Good work mate, you going to stick with the one stick now?

Photos: very interesting and imaginative conversion. I think that must be one of the best ways of doing it if you want to cover the centrecockpit space.

Re the beam  and block discussion, I have epoxied and varnished mine so any rot can be identified straight away rather than being hidden under paint.

They will need a little maintenance for that but that is a deliberate action on my part. There's no other brightwork on the boat other than the tillers and tillerbar.

So how does the boat sail with the new rig?

For coastal sailing the sloop rig has the advantage of leaving the after deck clear (apart from the gargantuan engine enclosure!). She sails easily despite the very far forward rig, though I had no direct comparison with other similar craft. For longer passages I would consider returning to the schooner rig because it offers more options in heavy weather. Unfortunately I won't be doing this any time soon since I sold the boat to a lovely family last month, myself having taken on a new job abroad.

I agree with your point Ian about not concealing rot prone areas with paint, although I didn't follow that course myself.

Thanks for that: I have retained schooner rig as per design apart from adding approx 250 mm to mainmast for a little bloke like me to look underneath mainsail. I am mostly concerned about the options for heavy weather.
