    Hi Alex,

I was the Foreman Boatbuilder,  for the  'Polynesian Voyaging Society'..., before being asked to teach-full time.. Boatbuilding, and taking on this new life as an Instructor!!

absolutely love teaching!....btw......its simply a blast!

'PVS' is a Fantastic organization!    you may want to start there....

Hokule'a....a double hull / sailing canoe....has just been re-worked, and launched out of dry-dock........a fantastic project in itself

the people and spirit involved.......just beautiful !!

Hokule'a will begin a 'Around the World' sail.....in one year......spreading Peace, Compassion, Understanding, Tolerance, Education, Culture.....along her journey!  making new friends Worldwide.....I just reviewed her tentative route......wow!!

    here is PVS website  http://pvs.kcc.hawaii.edu/

I was also involved, briefly,  with traditional Maori boatbuilding from New Zealand...

Maori have canoe culture organizations that mirror PVS....  I refer to this website often:

    http://www.arts.auckland.ac.nz/uoa/home/about/departments-and-schoo...

and this ebook might shed some info for you:

The Maori: Yesterday and To-day      http://www.nzetc.org/tm/scholarly/tei-CowYest-t1-body-d1-d3.html

I hope that answers some questions!!....

    take care
