Well done Paul your flying along!

I started again after a hiatus of 4 months due to the wet.....

I've just about finished the aft & main beams well be ready to glass them next week. They are very time consuming! used 6 kilo epoxy so far.

All Hoop too.

Due to start tillers, rudders and all the other 19mm ply stuff.

will post some pics soon.

hey lee it is good to have you up and running again.yeah mate the amount of epoxy you go thru is alarming.

ah yes, avoiding cock ups is so easy if you just pay attention and check that you are building according to the plans and not what you think should be going on.i laminated a section of timber on the beams today where i thought it should go and of course it was all wrong thankfully the epoxy had not cured and was able to pry the timber off.

the beams are almost complete, wow what a lot of fiddly work.the mast beam i have given an extra layer of biaxial tape along the bottom 70x20  stringer for added stiffness.i have a problem with the front beam cover web as it isn inch too  narrow to cover the front face of the beam, any suggestions of how to remedy this would not go amiss,or should i just cut another?

hey duncan the tiki 26 beams are a pain, but as i am presently building them,i have come to realize just get on with the job and when it is all said and done these beams where designed specifically for the boat and speaking for myself i reckon they are a magnificent piece of engineering in themselves.sure i have thought of doing as you propose but now that i have the beams nearly completed i am glad that i stayed with the originals.

Hi Paul thanks for the feed back. Have you seen the plans for the Tiki 30 beam - they are very similar to the Tiki 26 beams, the main difference being the timber structure is inside the beam, hence a much 'cleaner' beam to glass. To solve your beam front issue you may want to consider inserting a piece of ply in the centre and the trimming it  back down to size, just check where you butt blocks are positioned in relation to the webs.

Duncan i have not seen the plans for the t 30 beams and if i had them at the time of building my beams i would have been sorely tempted.thanks for the heads up on the front beam

cheers paul.

Hi Paul, I built a T 30 a few years ago so I am in the fortunate position to have a  set of plans. Cheers Duncan

Duncan, why the change down to a tiki 26 if i may ask?
Comment by Duncan Clausen on May 17, 2011 at 2:24am
Hi Paul! I want a boat that I can trailer and the T30 is a bit on the big side to tow easily, and the T21 is a bit on the small side for my growing family (wife and 5 year old + one in the oven!)
